The Gifted Recap: 2.09 ‘gaMe changer’

The Gifted gaMe changer

A lot happened during the last episode of The Gifted for 2018 and it gave us a lot of questions and answers, and now we have a whole four weeks to wait.

Let’s start with the most important storyline which comes to an end in this episode. We saw Fade catching Rebecca at the end of the last episode. Now back at the HQ, Reeva has put Rebecca into a box of darkness which constantly moves so that she cannot use her powers. When it comes to Rebecca Reeva is stone cold. The only reason she does not get rid of her for good is because Reeva still needs her.

When it comes to questioning the Inner Circle, Lorna and Andy are like a ping-pong game. This time, it is Andy’s turn again. With the intention of running away with Rebecca, he frees her from the box, but she has another plan in her mind. She wants revenge. Before Rebecca can kill Reeva, the Frost Sisters and Lorna, Andy accidentally kills her when he smashes her against the wall.

Lorna tries to make Andy understand that Rebecca came out of the restrain facility as a broken person, but looking at the little flashback scene in the beginning of this episode, she was a little psycho even before. After she tried to kill her teacher, her parents called Sentinel Services who took her away.

Meanwhile, Lauren tells her parents about what Dr. Risman really is looking for. She does not want to just block the X gene, but turn it of entirely. Basically she wants to safe the human race because mutants have no right to live because her powers can be a curse. Well, it depends from which side you look at it, right? As thankful as Noah is for Dr. Risman’s help, he never wanted to get rid of his powers completely.

Before the Strucker’s get out of the lab while Noah is destroying all of Lauren’s blood samples, we learn that Lauren has two versions of the X gene in her, which is an effect from being one part of Fenris. Compared to the rest of the mutant underground, they had it easy.

Marcos is missing his baby girl, but John does not give him time to grieve. He wants to stop the Inner Circle now, because war between mutants and humans is starting, so they have to act now.

John was able to track down Regimen Technologies and with Clarice’s and Marcos help they kidnap Laurence Hayes.

As Clarice describes it “we are really living the dream of the X-Men”. I could not agree more. Three mutants want to stop a war in which thousands are involved. Not to mention that the kidnapping alone reminded me of a scene from a comedy movie.

John is desperate, I get it, but through it he is blinded and does not see that he may do something that leads into the wrong way. Not only does he accuse Clarice of cheating on him, but he also runs into Turners hands.

The episode could not end with a bigger cliffhanger: Turner now is leading the Purifiers and basically labels every mutant to be a terrorist. Reeva’s next step in her plan is to destroy Regimen Technologies servers which control the mutant restrain collars in the whole country. Now the uprising truly has started and a lot of angry mutants want to take revenge now. If violence can beat violence, we will see. Clarice left John and Marcos, Marcos ran away with Fade and John is captured by Turner. At the moment, it does not look good for either of them….
