The Gifted Recap: 2.06 ‘iMprint’

The Gifted 2.06 Imprint

There are different roads that lead you to a better world, but which one you use will define your future. Everyone has a good reason for their doings, but how much worse can it get?

For one thing, the Ferris psychic connection is getting stronger. Andy calls Laurel into his dream and wants to convince her to join the Inner Circle. His dream takes place in the training room where Laurel sees what is left of the bank safe and when she touches it, she cuts her finger which starts to bleed causing her to wake up. It would be interesting to see, how this connection could be used and maybe this is the key how to peek into the Inner Circle and safe Lorna and Andy.

Since the drugs do not work anymore, Reed starts to train his powers with John against his will. As John puts it, Reed has to look inside of himself and learn to listen what is going on internally. It would help a lot if he would accept the fact that he is a mutant now.

During the training, Clarice and Marcos inform them that they got a video from a former member of the mutant underground which shows burning churches in Baltimore, fire set by the Purifiers. Turner seems to be in charge of them now and wants to change the Purifiers from a group which people see as a hate group, to a group “that catches mutant terrorist”.

“We are not here for blood, but for justice”. Maybe you should explain that a bit more, Turner. Please stop putting everyone under the same sticker. And no, you are definitely not the good guys here, but I have a feeling he will see that eventually.

Unfortunately, before he will, the crusade goes on. After all the churches which helped mutants have been burned down to ashes, the mutants are now located in one huge building which turns out to be exactly what the Purifiers wanted. Sadly, Johnny recognises it too late, just seconds before the first smoke gas was thrown into the building.

The mutants have to escape and that is when Reed’s powers come in handy. While Shatter is going outside to start a distraction, Reed tries to activate his powers to bring down a wall behind which is a secret escape tunnel. Unfortunately, not all mutants are able to escape and some of them are captured and Shatter gets killed.

Meanwhile, Kate and Lauren are visiting Dr. Taylor. This is the doctor to which Michael (the acid mutant from the last episode) referred as a nice and emphatic one. They hope to get more information about Rebecca, so they introduce themselves as family. At first, she wanted to report the Strucker Ladies to the police, but after Kate told her why they are asking her about this one patient, she shows them a terrifying video. She tells them, that Rebecca is unstable and that she knew they could not be her family, because she killed her family with her powers.

So Andy should be careful around her, but at the moment it is quite the opposite. They spend a lot of time together and there is definitely more than just friendship between them. This togetherness is only disturbed by the intense training they both have to go through with Lorna almost every day.

This starts to frustrate Lorna. She demands answers from Reeva about their mission or otherwise she is leaving, because all that training means being separated from Dawn and without knowing what this training is actually for.

Finally, we have proof that Esme is not fully behind everything they are doing. She tells Lorna about the upcoming mission, which is to crack the safe of a bank, Creed Foundation. Why? Because they are financing everything that is against mutants or hurts them, as they founded and financed the lab that created her and her sister. Yes, you read correctly: the Frost Sisters are clones!

Before we learn more about them, Esme buries Lorna’s trust with humming Lorna’s lullaby. Before they went to their bonding time, Esme hears Dawn cry and looks into her little head to calm her. Lorna is furious and never wants to see one of the sisters near Dawn.

This week’s episode flashback showed a 13-year-old Esme, Phoebe, and Sophie right the second when they had to use their powers to hurt a person and then they use them against the people who held them hostage and forced them to kill themselves. She also tells Lorna, that there were two more sisters, Celeste and Mindy, who were kept as leverage and who got killed during their escape because their collars which suppressed their powers have been activated and killed them.

Through the psychic connection, the other three sisters were able to feel their sister’s death as if it was their own. So is Esme now turning herself against her sisters because she does not believe that the path they are currently walking on is the right one? Well, if her sleeping position is a hint, then I would say it is so.

As Skyler Samuels, who plays all three sisters, said in an interview, we will start to see how different the sisters are under their surface.

“The way that [the sisters] were sort of designed and described to me is like the Id, the Ego and the Superego,” she explained. “If we think of the Hive Mind as one mind though they’re three people, Esme is our Ego. She is ethical. She is sort of our straight shooter. Then we have Sophie, who is sweet with her sort of softer voice, much more rational, much more thoughtful. She’s our Superego, just looking out for what’s best, what’s good. And then there’s our Id, which is Phoebe, who’s got her raspy voice and she’s just full of piss and vinegar and feist and is like ready to throw down at like any second.”

So now we have a bit of time to process all the new facts and mourn Shatter, who did not leave without giving Reed some advice: The more you reject the things you can’t face, the worst you make it. Well, it does seem to be true, because after using his powers in the hideout, he cannot stop them anymore. How will he cope with them?

The other question for which I need an answer ASAP is, who is Reeva texting? Secret boyfriend? Her child? P.S: Who thinks that doing this would come in handy sometimes? 😉
