New To TV: Stargate Origins

Another franchise is making its return with the release of a new television series, Stargate Origins.

Throwing off a very Indiana Jones vibe, the series is set in 1939 and follows Professor Paul Langford and his daughter Catherine who are still grappling with the mysteries of the ancient relic they discovered in the Egyptian desert more than ten years ago. With war looming in Europe and funding running out, these brilliant minds are approaching their lowest ebb. Little do they know, answers are about to present themselves in a dangerous form, when the Nazi Occultist Dr. Wilhelm Brücke approaches their facility with a sinister motive.

Enlisting the help of two young soldiers, Catherine must use all of her wit and nous as she and her new allies embark on an adventure into the unknown to rescue her father, and save the Earth from an unimaginable darkness.

The cast is led by Australian actress Ellie Gall, who portrays Catherine. Joining her as Professor Langford is Connor Trinneer, whom Stargate Atlantis fans may recognise from his stint as the villainous Michael; as well as original Catherine Langford actress Kelly Vint Castro in an undisclosed role. Rounding out the main cast are Shvan Aladdin as Wasif, Philip Alexander as Beal, and Aylam Orian as the ruthless Nazi villain Brücke.

The series could prove interesting by the looks of the trailer as we see the gate functioning, which could create conflict with Stargate‘s existing canon. In the original 1994 film, it was established that the scientists and an older Langford weren’t sure how to activate it. However, the 1997 series Stargate SG-1 had mentioned it had been started once. Whatever is the case, lets hope the series will keep dedicated fans happy when it comes to approaching the lore.

Starring Ellie Gall (Puberty Blues), Connor Trinneer (Star Trek: Enterprise), Philip Alexander, Aylam Orian, and Shvan Aladdin (#TheAssignment).

All ten episodes of Stargate Origins will stream on Stargate Command’s All-Access service on February 15th, which also allows you to stream the ultimate Stargate video collection, including every episode of SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe. You can sign up for the service here.
