Review: The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles

The Edge of Everything, written by Jeff Giles, is about a girl named Zoe and her brother, Jonah. The siblings are being attacked by a man when out of nowhere, a hot bounty hunter who calls himself ‘X’ saves them. This is one of those books where you don’t want to know too much about it as it will just give everything away, so we’ll keep our lips sealed on the rest of the details!

They always say ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ and in this case, I did. At first glance, the snow on the cover made sense as the novel is set in Montana, but the whole adventure aspect and the romance that was incorporated was unexpected.

This book has it all. From fantasy to adventure and romance as well as a huge plot twist. Without giving too much away about the story, Zoe and X do form a bond even though X has to tell and do some things to Zoe which affect her in every way; Zoe has to do the unthinkable throughout the novel all while taking care of her mother and brother; and X wants out so this is the last deed and then he is out.

The author, Jeff Giles, has an amazing writing history. From writing for Rolling Stone and working with Entertainment Weekly, Giles decided to switch to writing YA fiction because he saw the book community like he has never seen it before.

Overall, the book is definitely worth the read and it is not at all what you would expect!

SYNOPSIS

For the perfect love, what would you be willing to lose?

It’s been a shattering year for seventeen-year-old Zoe, who’s still reeling from her father’s shockingly sudden death in a caving accident and her neighbors’ mysterious disappearance from their own home. Then on a terrifying sub-zero, blizzardy night in Montana, she and her brother are brutally attacked in a cabin in the woods—only to be rescued by a mysterious bounty hunter they call X.

X is no ordinary bounty hunter. He is from a hell called the Lowlands, sent to claim the soul of Zoe’s evil attacker and others like him. X is forbidden from revealing himself to anyone other than his prey, but he casts aside the Lowlands’ rules for Zoe. As they learn more about their colliding worlds, they begin to question the past, their fate, and their future.
