“They gave me a choice: die or become a Sparrow,” says Jennifer Lawrence’s character in the latest trailer for the upcoming spy assassin thriller, Red Sparrow.
The new film is an adaptation of Jason Matthews novel of the same name, which follows Dominika Egorova (Lawrence), a prima ballerina who faces a bleak and uncertain future after she suffers an injury that ends her career. She soon turns to Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people to use their minds and bodies as weapons. Egorova emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow after completing the sadistic training process. As she comes to terms with her new abilities, Dominika meets a CIA agent who tries to convince her that he is the only person she can trust.
In the new trailer, we see footage of Lawrence’s character training with multiple young women as Charlotte Rampling’s character says, “From this day forward, you will become Sparrows. … You are weapons in a global struggle for power.”
Essentially that means to commit multiple murders in various disguises, but Lawrence’s character also strikes up a relationship with a CIA agent who is played by Joel Edgerton. His character attempts to turn her into a double agent as the Sparrow School will never let her go, although she thinks she can find a way.
The film starsJennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Joel Edgerton (Bright), Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman), Matthias Schoenaerts, Ciaran Hinds, and Joely Richardson.
Red Sparrow hits theatres March 2.
