Once Upon A Time Recap: 7.02 ‘A Pirate’s Life’

This week’s episode of Once Upon a Time, saw the return of some very beloved characters which naturally made fans feel a little better about this new storyline.

In the last episode, Henry is shown as an adult in two alternate storylines: one in Seattle and one in another realm.

However, this episode begins with Killian and young Henry sword fighting on the Jolly Roger in Storybrooke. Killian gives Henry a bottle that can carry a voice message if he ever needs it, but Henry doesn’t use it until Lady Tremaine goes after him for “killing” the prince at the ball. He then begs Emma, Regina, and Captain Hook to save him from Lady Tremaine.

The scene then switches to Henry in Seattle with Officer Rogers reading Henry’s book. Rogers asks about the blonde woman in the red jacket, and Henry says it’s the made up character of Emma Swan, but then proceeds to talk about Lucy and Jacinda.

Lucy has a ballet recital, but Jacinda can’t afford to see her daughter after Victoria Belfrey jacked up the ticket prices. Henry later begs for Jacinda’s forgiveness, but Jacinda isn’t having it since she’s upset and won’t take Henry’s charity as she’s not a damsel in distress. Meanwhile, Sabine (Jacinda’s roommate who also happens to be Tiana), is trying to help her find ways to pay for the ticket.

In the other realm, Henry is taken prisoner with Lady Tremaine giving Drizella orders to torture him until he gives up the hiding spot of Cinderella’s slipper. She begins taunting him, when suddenly a portal opens with Regina and Killian jumping out and rendering Drizella unconscious (this team up though).

Regina gets very emotional when she sees her son all grown up and Henry asks where his “other mom” is. Hook responds by saying the saviour is fighting dragons and Henry buys it before leaving the room. Regina turns to Hook and asks why he lied to Henry, so obviously something else is going on with Emma.

Back in Hyperion Heights, Victoria hires Weaver (Rumple) and Rogers to make Henry go away. They head to Roni’s bar, but Roni doesn’t give him anything and before Rogers leaves, Roni warns him to be careful around Weaver.

Meanwhile, Regina is trying to do a locator spell on the slipper, but her magic isn’t working. Hook jumps in and says that he smells saltwater so there must be a port nearby with pirates and that they would have noticed if someone had a glass slipper.

When Hook gets to the port area, he is accosted by a drunk beggar who happens to look very similar to him—it’s Drunk Killian. He tells our Killian that their stories were parallel up until a certain time until our Killian found love with Emma Swan, but Drunk Killian didn’t. Drunk Killian has been looking for his own Emma Swan for years and then earlier that day, a young man’s voice in a bottle begged Emma, Hook, and Regina to help him.

Drunk Killian knocks our Killian out and takes a little of his blood and then covers him with a blanket before finding Lady Tremaine. He promises her that he will help with Henry, if she transforms his body into one that matches Storybrooke Killian. Lady Tremaine agrees and now there are two Killians who look exactly alike (#twins).

We go back to Seattle where Sabine finds Jacinda a catering gig at the ballet recital. Henry Mills is also there. A coincidence? I think not. During the recital, Rogers and Weaver go through Henry’s apartment looking for points of vulnerability and when they leave, Rogers takes the swan keychain hanging by the door.

Going back to the other realm, Henry asks Regina about home, but Regina dodges most of the questions. They both admit their stories aren’t great right now while the other Hook tries to convince Henry it’s time to go back home to Storybrooke. He has a forged note from Cinderella, which claims she wants nothing to do with him. Henry begins to brood and all of a sudden, Emma arrives in a red cardigan and jeggings. Also, apparently Emma never ages, which is interesting.

They have an adorable reunion and Emma tells Henry she’s pregnant, which causes fake Killian to become upset and mumbles that he “he needs to fix it”. He finds the real Killian outside the tavern and the real one attacks him. The fake Killian says he doesn’t want to separate a father from his child and admits he is trying to find his own daughter, who is trapped in a prison and he believed true love was the cure for saving her.

Real Killian has a change of heart and when Emma walks up, he asks her to save the fake Killian. Emma says her magic doesn’t work here either, but Killian asks her to try, which it does.

Back in Seattle, Rogers and Weaver plan to put Victoria’s diamond bracelet into Henry’s pocket at the recital. Rogers is given the task and Weaver thinks he’s done it, but when Henry empties his pockets, he only finds a swan keychain. Rogers tries to get rid of the bracelet and tells Weaver he doesn’t want to separate a father from his child (does this sound familiar?). At Roni’s, Jacinda forgives Henry and blames her mood on Lucy’s insistence that she’s Cinderella.

In the other realm, Henry is talking with Emma and he then talks the fake Killian into staying along with Regina too so she can find her own happy ending (I think we all hope it’s with Robin Hood). Henry and Regina decide to call it “Operation Next Chapter”. And then we see Emma and her Killian, step into a portal to go back to Storybrooke. This is probably the last time we see either of these two characters which is heartbreaking for many fans, including myself.

In Seattle, Rogers shares he was shot in an alleyway and a woman who looked just like Emma, saved him. He wants to be a hero and figure out what’s going on in their town.

Overall Thoughts?

Season 7 of Once Upon a Time has a lot of potential and I really think it is doing well so far. The new characters are great and the storyline is decent. Getting to see Jennifer Morrison back for one more episode was amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. I think we’re all secretly hoping she’ll agree to do one more episode when the show ends for sure.
