New To TV: I’m Dying Up Here

Get ready for Showtime’s latest drama as it explores the struggles of “making it big” in the 1970’s L.A. comedy scene.

In the upcoming series, every night, a group of up-and-coming comedians wait to perform at Goldie’s, the hottest stand-up club in town. But first they’ll have to win over Goldie, who rules the Sunset Strip with an iron fist. Stand-up is a drug for these comedians, and they’re willing to sacrifice everything to get their fix. They brave the pain of sharing their innermost thoughts and darkest secrets, hoping that someone, anyone, will laugh.

This fictional group of competitive but close-knit comedians is mentored by “Goldie” (Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist, but nurtures her comedians with tough love. For Goldie and her crew, there’s truly no such thing as an easy laugh.

The series comes from creator David Flebotte (Masters of Sex) with Al Madrigal, Jim Carrey (Ace Ventura)

Starring Melissa Leo (Snowden), Michael Angarano (The Knick), Al Madrigal (About A Boy), Ari Gaynor (Bad Teacher), Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine), RJ Cyler (Power Rangers), Erik Griffin (Workaholics) and Stephen Guarino (Dr. Ken). The series will also guest star Dylan Baker (The Good Wife), Sebastian Stan (Captain America) and Alfred Molina (Chocolat).

I’m Dying Up Here premieres Sunday June 4 at 10/9c on Showtime. For those who live in Australia, you can watch the series on Stan.
