Literature of the World Canada Books

Boys and Girls by Alice Munro | Goodreads

This is a short story about gender, which looks at the definition of “girl” and “boy” and why is there even a definition for these terms. It’s about how society keeps creating moulds to fit us in them and how we must realise them before we break free.

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel | Goodreads

This is one of the best books you’ll ever read. It’s about everything in your life; it’s your daily morning coffee, your favourite place in the world, your family, and your friends. It’s about your books, the art, Shakespeare, survival, and the little things we love that no one knows about it. This book will make you appreciate your life, and embrace life.

The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton | Goodreads

Mystery and mischief. Crime and intrigue. Catton is the youngest author to ever receive The Man Booker Award for her 800+ page book, The Luminaries and it took her five years to create this masterpiece! Set in 19th century New Zealand, Catton weaves a tale of twelve characters related and unrelated to each other that surely will flip your brains out. If you like morally ambiguous characters, astrology, murder mysteries and one hell of a mind-blowing story; this book is for you.

Rebel of The Sand by Alwyn Hamilton | Goodreads

A Persian fantasy novel like no other; probably because we rarely find a fantasy world set outside of the European territory, or we never hear of them, actually! But this one, I am glad to say we did; it’s sassy, witty, magical (Duh! It’s fantasy), with a wicked heroine you’ll surely come to love! If you want an adventure with the aura of a fantasy Middle Eastern setting, pick this up!

Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley | Goodreads

If you had a chance to erase or alter a memory or an event, would you do it? Do you think it would affect your life as it is now?! Coming to you from the artist behind Scott Pilgrim series, O’Malley brings you one of the most original and relatable work of art you’ll ever encounter. A story about second chances, magic, and life served on a gorgeous outburst of colours and illustrations.
