Months of rampant speculation came to a peak last night, as the face for the Thirteenth Doctor was finally revealed. It is an absolute pleasure to announce that Jodie Whittaker will be the first female actress to play the title character in Doctor Who!
Jodie Whittaker is best known for her critically acclaimed performance in Broadchurch as Beth Latimer, the grieving mother of deceased schoolboy Danny Latimer. She has also appeared in Series 1, Episode 3 of Black Mirror, “The Entire History of You”.
Whittaker’s Doctor Who debut will take place on Christmas Day in “The Doctors”, which will star Peter Capaldi in his last outing as the Twelfth Doctor alongside David Bradley as the First Doctor. Her first full series will begin in 2018 with Chris Chibnall as the new showrunner, raking over from Steven Moffat.
